Motoring journalists and enthusiasts descended has been upon Suntec City over the last few days. Why, you ask? The Singapore Motorshow 2015 is being held at Suntec City between 15 to 18 Jan, the first of its kind for many years. Many Car brands with the expection of a few high profile brands like Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche and Maserati showcased their upcoming models with a few concept and prototype cars.
I originally planned to go with my friend this evening, but due to some personal reasons, I cancelled on him at the last-minute and went by myself this afternoon.
If I have to list every car I saw and took photos of, I will take hours and I doubt you even want to read until the end… I won’t bother reading long-winded motoring journalists articles either. So, I will list a few highlights.
The new Lexus RC-F! Rivalling the new BMW M4, it has an amazing Japanese made 5.0 litre V8, and being an Lexus it is crammed full of technological features. But, according to recent reviews I have read, it is not such a good car to drive, not driver oriented.
And of course, the long awaited small 2-Seater Alfa Romeo Sports car, the 4C!!! An absolute lightweight insect, weighing in at around 900kg. Due to its weight, it doesn’t require a big engine… Just a 1.8 Litre turbocharged engine producing just 237bhp. You may think that isn’t very fast, but it goes from 0-100km/h in 4.5 and yet it has low fuel consumption. The prices are not out yet, but if it is below $300k,it would be worth a buy to any motoring enthusiast.
The brand new Audi TT, which hasnew dashboard consisting of the sat-nav behind the electric speedo and rev counter and reworked engine. Also, Audi’s famous Quattro 4 Wheel Drive system implanted with its entry-level 2.0 litre turbocharged engine. Clearly, it has reaffirmed its place has a top contender in the coupe market.
BMW’s new hybrids, the i3 and i8. Firstly, the i3 is powered by a small electric motor with a small petrol engine for extra range. In my view, the i3 isn’t that impressive or good looking, and at $250k… It is way too expensive for what is a hybrid hatchback.
The i8 is what I am interested in. It is powered by a electric motor and a 1.5 litre 3 Cylinder Engine. Combined, they produce about 228bhp and goes from 0-100km/h in 4.5 seconds and has a fuel consumption of 47.6km/l. Impressive, isn’t it, and good looking. Priced at around $600k, its main rival would be the Porsche 911, and with the ‘Beetle’ the world’s most successful sports car, the i8 has a mountain to climb. But, it has my support.
I has always admired American Muscle Cars. They are a bit like Sharks, very striking to look at, and very fast, but you wouldn’t want to own one, would you? They have always had a reputation for bad quality, rock hard suspension and crude handling, all from the richest country in the world. The ford Mustang is the first American Muscle Car to be officially sold here in Singapore this year end. This rather handsome car will have a choice of two engines, a 2.3 litre Ecoboost Engine and a 5.0 litre V8. Ford promises that this generation of Mustang is much better to drive than ever and more reliable. Really? Lets see… I will be looking forward to seeing if that is true!
Of course, no Motorshow is complete without some beautiful girls!!! It is like having bread without butter.
It is quite clear, huh? There was no shortage of eye candy there!
Anyway, this was the first Motorshow I have attended, and it was good, with many celebrity appearances and a car stunt show by Russ Swift which I didn’t attend. But the absence of some big names in the supercar business was disappointing, therefore explaining the $6 entrance fee. Maybe if this Motorshow is successful enough, the next year’s one would be featuring the lastest Ferrari!!!
